John T. Smith, Sr., a lifelong resident of Tuxedo, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2010 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern at the age of 71. John was the son of the late Rose Ellen McBrien Smith and Norman Smith and was born June 17, 1938 in Tuxedo.

John was a retired clerk for Grand Union Company, Montvale, NJ where he worked for 38 years and was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Tuxedo.

Survivors include his loving wife of 51 happy years, Thelma C. Richards Smith at home, sons, John T. Smith, Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Tuxedo Park, Gregory J. Smith of Sloatsburg, Scott J. Smith, Sr. of New Windsor, Stephen G. Smith and his wife Robin of Monroe, his sister Margaret LaBurt and her husband Robert of Tuxedo, brother-in-laws, Richard Heater of Tuxedo, William Richards and his wife Betty of Great Bend, PA and ten grandchildren, Jessica, Thomas, Brittany, Scott, Jr., Kristin, Gregory, Amanda, Alexis, Shane and Luke. John was predeceased by his sisters Ann Grieve and her husband Fred, Jeanne Heater, his brothers Msgr. William J. Smith and Edward G. Smith.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 PM, Sunday, January 24, 2010 at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Avenue, Monroe. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Monday, January 25, 2010 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Route 17, Tuxedo with Rev. Brian LaBurt officiating. Cremation will follow at Cedar Hill Crematory, Middle Hope.

Aunt Thelma, Tommy, Greg, Scott, Steven and Family, Uncle John will always be with us. His gentle humor was with him through some tough times. But nothing compared to the support and love of his family. We are with you (always).
