Vincent John Edgar passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on Tuesday, July 13, 2010. Vincent was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 23, 1933. He was the son of the late Jesse and Vincent J. Edgar.
After graduating college in NYC, Vincent joined the US Marine Corps. There he received the Outstanding Man in his Battalion and also won the Battalion Boxing Title. He was also honored with the National Service Defense Medal and attained the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. As a marine, he attended the Naval Academy for Aviation & Aeronautical Engineering. After his honorable discharge from the Marine Corps., he worked as a draftsman/mechanical engineer for many years. But his true calling was to become one of “NY City’s Bravest”, a proud member of the Fire Dept. of the City of New York. He spent the majority of his firefighting years as a member of Ladder Co. 36 in upper Manhattan. He was also a proud member of the American Legion Post #488, Monroe.
Vincent very recently lost his beloved wife Karen to whom he was married to for over 50 years. He is very lovingly remembered by his children: son, Scott Edgar and wife Sherri of Danbury, CT, daughters, Laurie Greco and husband Steven of Palmyra, VA, Helen Fedun and husband Peter of New Windsor, and Karen Sheehan and husband Timothy of Salisbury Mills, NY. He was beloved “Papa” to his six grandchildren, Kaila, Chelsea, Jessica, Nicholas, Matthew & Lauren.
His intelligence, quick sense of humor, and strong sense of duty made Vincent truly one of a kind.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 & 7-9 PM on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Avenue, Monroe. Cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory, Middle Hope, NY.
