Stephen "Butch" Bruce, a life long resident of Orange County, passed away at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Newburgh, NY on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 of liver cancer. He was 85 years young and was born on April 2, 1925 in Newburgh to Joseph & Nellie Bruce.
Butch was a maintenance supervisor at Arden House in Harriman for 37 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII. He was a member of the Woodbury Field & Stream, the American Legion, and the Former Leisure Time Motorcycle Club.
Butch loved his Harley and loved to ride. He loved deer hunting and after his retirement, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle, puttering around the house, and loved his yardwork. He was often teased about the "perfect appearance" of his lawn.
A loving husband, he is survived by his wife Catherine of 46 years, a sister Anne Kulik, brother Nicholas and several nieces and nephews. Butch was predeceased by brothers Michael, Henry and John.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 & 7-9 PM on Friday, July 23, at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Avenue, Monroe. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Saturday, July 24 at St. Patrick's Church, 448 Route 32, Highland Mills. Interment will follow in Orange County Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Goshen.
