Maria "Abuela" Torres, a 15 year resident of the area, formerly of Elant at Goshen, passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 in The Valley View Center for Nursing Care and Rehabilitation in Goshen. She was 93.
Daughter of the late Jose Elias Zayas and Maria Soto Zayas, she was born in Coamo, Puerto Rico on September 26, 1919. She was the widow of Segundo Torres.
She is survived by her sons, Peter Torres of Deltona, FL, Gil Torres and his wife Emma of Brooklyn, daughters, Thelma Carrion and her husband David of Monroe, Maria Walton and her husband John of Mahopac, brother, Jerry Zayas of Florida, sister, Juanita Ubiles of South Carolina, 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 3 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 3-8 pm on Friday, March 1, 2013 at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Avenue, Monroe. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Sacred Heart Church, 26 Still Road, Monroe. Interment will be in Cementerio Municipal in Guayama, Puerto Rico.
