Harry W. Babcock, a forty-seven year resident of Monroe, NY, passed away peacefully Monday, March 4, 2013 at St. Anthony's Community Hospital, Warwick, NY, surrounded by his loving family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was 82 years old. Son of the late Harry W. & Anna J. Anderson Babcock, Harry was born in Richmond Hill, Queens on April 1, 1930.
He was a graduate of Richmond Hill High School, and a retired New York City Firefighter, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and a former Monroe Woodbury School Bus Driver. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monroe, a member of the American Legion Post 488, Monroe and an avid New York Yankee Fan.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Esther Babcock of Monroe; one son, Barry Babcock of Cornwall-on-Hudson; one daughter, Barbara Sullivan & her husband Steven of Warwick; 3 beloved grandchildren: Mark Babcock, and Christopher and Samantha Sullivan; two sisters, Doris Dale of St. James, NY and Ruth Obser of Milford, PA; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 7 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 21 Still Road, Monroe. Interment of ashes will be at a later date in Orange County Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Goshen, NY with full military honors.
