Frank Jones a lifelong area resident passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Middletown, NY. He was 89 years old. Son of the late Paul and Lucy Cooper Jones, he was born in Central Valley, NY on April 18, 1922. Frank was the widower of Irmay M. Adams Jones.
Frank retired after 28 years as a Heavy Equipment Operator with the Town of Monroe Highway Department. He was a life member with the Central Valley Fire Company, and a life member with the Woodbury Field and Stream Club where he was named 2003 Sportsman of the Year. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a former P.O.W. in Germany while serving his country during World War II. Frank was the recipient of a Prisoner of War Medal for honorable service while being taken prisoner and held captive for 11 months in a German War Camp.
Survivors include his son: Richard Jones of Monroe, NY; four daughters: Lucy Purdy & her husband Nathan of Ocala, FL, Thelma Mann & her husband Eric of Monroe, NY, Ruthann Cutler of Vero Beach, FL, BettyLou VanVliet & her husband Paul of Vero Beach, FL; his sister: Marie Ayers of Monroe, NY; 7 grandchildren: Helena, Bud, Jen, Pat, Matthew, Liz & Steve, and 8 great grandchildren: Jesse, Frank, Greg, Kaitlyn, Mikayla, Toby, Megan & Keira. He was predeceased by his brothers: Robert, Charles, & Jack, and his sisters: Dora, Bertha, Melvina, Gladys, & Ida.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 & 7-9 PM on Friday, January 13, at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Avenue, Monroe. A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 14, in the funeral home with Rev. Alex Lever officiating. Interment will follow in Cemetery of The Highlands, Highland Mills.
