Claire J. Rudden, of Monroe, NY, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at Orange Regional Medical Center, Wallkill, NY, on Thursday, March 9, 2017.
Claire was born in Brooklyn, NY, August 11, 1934, to the late William and Catherine J. (Carey) Deery, both from County Donegal, Ireland. Claire graduated from St. Brendan's High School in Brooklyn, NY; and upon graduation, worked at Raymond International as a secretary, a job she always spoke of fondly. She continued to work there until she and the love of her life, John, started a family in Gerritsen Beach, Brooklyn, a community where they enjoyed raising their family among friends and family.
Claire and her family moved to Monroe, NY, in 1970, where she was involved in many organizations close to her heart including the Sacred Heart Rosary Altar Society, the Garden Club, and the Monroe Free Library, a natural inclination for her, given her love of books. Claire loved to travel and enjoyed her trips across the US, Europe and Asia.
Claire was the beloved mother of Maryclaire Rudden of Chittenden, VT, John Rudden (Tammy) of Georgia, VT, Tim Rudden of Niskayuna, NY, Annie Rudden of Brooklyn, NY, Colin Rudden of Fishkill, NY and Neil Rudden (Angela) of Croton-on-Hudson, NY. She was a devoted sister to Michael Deery (Kate) of Kansas City, MO, Margaret Mary Meagher of Palo Alto, CA, sister-in-law to William Sweeney, of Chesapeake, VA and to Bernard 'Brian' Redmond, of Naples, FL and Sherman, CT.
Claire was a grandmother to eight beloved grandchildren and a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband, John F. Rudden, and her sisters, Eileen Deery and Cathleen 'Honey' Sweeney, her brother-in-law Tom Meagher and her sister-in-law, Helen Rudden Redmond.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday, March 16th at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Avenue, Monroe, NY. A funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 26 Still Road, Monroe, NY on Friday March 17th at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at St. Anastasia Cemetery, Harriman, NY.
