Obituary of John Zaleskie

THE FAMILY OF JOHN S. ZALESKIE HAS CHANGED VISITATION FROM THURSDAY TO SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 11TH.

John S. Zaleskie, lifelong area resident, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, NY. He was 89. Son of the late Stephen Zaleskie and Marion VanGelder Zaleskie, he was born in Goshen, NY on November 30, 1927.

John was a retired Maintenance Mechanic for Orange & Rockland Utilities in Haverstraw, NY. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WW II and was a member of the American Legion Post #488 in Monroe, a life member of Disabled American Veterans Post #137 in Peekskill, NY and was a former member of Mombasha Fire Company in Monroe, NY.

He is survived by his son, John D. Zaleskie of Monroe, his daughters, Kim E. Yunck and fiance Daniel Jones of Newburgh, Stephanie J. Miller and life partner Mario Melchiorre of Hawley, PA, 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Joan L. Lynn Zaleskie.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Avenue, Monroe, NY. A graveside service and interment of cremains will take place at Seamanville Cemetery, Monroe, NY at a later date.

Family statement – " After a long battle with multiple lung diseases, John S. Zaleskie finally succumbed to them. His presence was felt by all in a positive and loving way. His lust for life was like no other. He will be dearly missed by family and friends."
