Peter A. Hewitt

Peter A. Hewitt passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at his home in Monroe, NY surrounded by loved ones. He was 77 years old. Son of the late Harry J. and Marjorie E. Potts Hewitt, he was born in Brooklyn on January 19, 1940.

Peter enjoyed riding his Harley up and down the East Coast, from Maine to Virginia. He even rode in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. He was a proud member of The Muddy Boot Gang, racing Trials and Scramble races through the woods, and playing Motoball. He was active at Grace Episcopal Church in Monroe, where he served on the Vestry and was a Warden and an Acolyte. He was an artist, working in all mediums from photography and painting to metal sculpture and even wooden furniture. Peter was a soccer coach for Monroe-Woodbury Soccer Club for 9 years. He also was a Boy Scout Committeeman for Troup 340. He was well respected in his career with Daimler Chrysler, even after retirement. He was known for his sharp wit and sense of humor and it was his goal in life to make everybody he met laugh.

Survivors include his loving wife, Isabel F. Hewitt of Monroe, NY; his son Peter J. Hewitt and his wife Tanya of Morrison, CO; his daughters: Caroline M. Hewitt of Monroe, NY, Suzanne E. Straut of Newburgh, NY; his brothers: Donald H. Hewitt of Westtown, NY, Jery Hewitt of Edenville, NY; his three grandchildren: Jessica A. Dauphinee, Amanda J. Straut, and Teagan F. Hewitt. Peter was predeceased by his brother Steven A. Hewitt.

Memorial Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 23th at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Avenue, Monroe NY. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 25th at Grace Episcopal Church, 1 Forest Avenue, Monroe, NY. Cremation took place at Cedar Hill Crematory, Middle Hope, NY.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Grace Episcopal Church in Monroe, and Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, Inc., 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.
