Sister Catherine J. McIntyre, RJM February 20, 1939 - April 21, 2021 Sister Catherine McIntyre passed away on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at Cabrini Eldercare in Dobbs Ferry, NY. The daughter of the late Nora Crotty McIntyre and John McIntyre, she was 82 years old. She was born in New York, NY. Sister Catherine was the sister of her departed brother James, and is survived by her brother Dr. John McIntyre, MD, and his wife Anne of Rochester, NY, together with the families of a niece, three nephews and six grandnephews and four grandnieces, who mourn her passing. Sister Catherine's early education at St. John's School in Kingsbridge and Sacred Heart of Mary Academy in upper Manhattan was followed by a Bachelor of Education from Fordham University in the Bronx. She entered the Novitiate of the Religious of Jesus and Mary in Hyattsville, Md., in 1960. Sister Catherine's early ministries included Elementary School administration and Secondary School teaching. Subsequently, she earned a Doctorate in Theology with a concentration in spirituality from the Gregorian University in Rome. She served for a time as Director of The Institute for Religious and Pastoral Studies at the University of Dallas, but the greater part of her ministry was in the New York Archdiocese, lecturing at Fordham University, Mercy College, Marymount Manhattan College, and Iona College. Sr. Catherine contributed to programs in adult education, and initial & ongoing formation for religious communities. As Director of Bethany Spirituality Center in Highland Mills, NY, Sr. Catherine expanded its offerings of directed Ignatian retreats, while providing and hosting other programs in spirituality and religious formation. Her 21 years there closed with her move to Cabrini Eldercare in 2012. Cremation took place at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope, NY. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick's Church on Route 32 in Highland Mills, NY. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Sorrows Cemetery in Highland Mills, NY.
