She is survived by six of her seven children: Diana (predeceased), Jean, Susan, Robert, Thomas, Edward (Suzanne), and Howard (Tamara), as well as her sister Pauline Smith. Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Lawrence Boyd. Catherine was a grandmother to eleven grandchildren: Jade, Iain, Malcolm, Jesse, Jennie, James, Kevin, Bronwen, Katie, Rylee and Chloe; and three great grandchildren: River, Greyson, and Andrew. Catherine was born March 5, 1931. She grew up in Creignish, a small rural community on the coast of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada. Catherine immigrated to NY City when she was seventeen years old. It was there that she met her future husband, Andrew, at a Scottish dance. Together they lived in the Bronx and Washington Heights before moving to Cresskill, New Jersey. After her children were school age, Catherine went back to school and received her licensed practical nursing degree. She worked for many years caring for elderly patients. Catherine loved going back to Cape Breton where she had a home in Long Point, a short walk from the home she grew up in. In the summer, she went to cèilidhs with wonderful music and dancing, visited with her large extended family and friends, and took in the incredible view of the Atlantic Ocean from her back deck. On behalf of the Boyd Family, a special thank you to all of the Glen Arden staff for the kindness, loving care and friendship given to our mother. Her family also extends gratitude beyond measure to Judy Keenan who gave her so much love and joy. Catherine will always be remembered for her positive spirit and love for her family and friends.
