Obituary of Charles Starkey

Charles P. Starkey "Butch"

August 12, 1944-December 15, 2017

Mountainville, NY

Charles Paul Starkey, affectionately known as "Butch" passed away Friday, December 15, 2017 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Wallkill, NY. He was 73 years old. Son of the late James and Margaret Blasco Starkey, he was born August 12, 1944 in Suffern, NY. Butch was a Mechanic with IBEW Local #825 and Local #1249. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving during Vietnam, was an avid Hunter and Outdoorsmen, and a Life Member of the N.R.A. For many years, Butch owned a gas station with his brother Bob in Spring Valley.

Survivors include his daughter, Jennifer Starkey of Washingtonville, NY, his son Kevin Starkey of Washingtonville, NY; his granddaughter, Lana Grace Starkey; his former wife Linda Starkey; his brothers: James Starkey and his wife Barbara of Suffern, NY, Richard Starkey and his wife Marlene of Jacksonville, FL; his sisters: Lucille Whittaker and her husband Thomas of Jarrettsville, MD, Diane Roper of Chester, NY, and many nieces and nephews. Butch was predeceased by his brother Robert Starkey and his sister Betty Schmidt.

He was a beloved, reliable friend to many and was always willing to help others. He was the first one to show up when something went wrong and always figured out how to fix it. He was quick with a joke and always made people laugh. He most enjoyed spending time being silly with his granddaughter, sitting and talking with friends and his siblings, and being with his children. He was a great teacher to his children, his friends, and his many nieces and nephews. He loved his lunches with his baby sister Diane who was his closest confidant. Butch, who was born at Good Samaritan Hospital received his nickname from the nurses as he was the biggest baby born there, was loved by many and will forever be missed.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 20th at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Avenue, Monroe, NY 10950. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on December 21st at Reformed Church of West New Hempstead, 221 Brick Church Road, Spring Valley, NY. Interment will follow in Brick Church Cemetery, Spring Valley, NY.
