Obituary of Francesca Scerbo

Francesca Scerbo, Director of Department at Seaford Schools, actress and Lady of the Holy Sepulchre died on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Glen Arden in Goshen, NY. She was 95.

Francesca, also known as Frances and Fran by her educational colleagues, was the daughter of Pasquale (Pat) Scopelliti and Rosa (Rose) Taibi and wife of musician, Tullio Scerbo, all deceased. She is survived by her daughter, Joan Scerbo Jenny, teacher of Italian and French, and her husband, Dennis E. Jenny and two granddaughters, Cristina Rose Pineda and Alessandra Frances Conti of Matchmakers in the City.

Francesca did her undergraduate work at Pratt Institute, and went on to earn her Master's Degree at Columbia University. She continued her studies and earned over 60 hours of post-graduate work at N.Y.U. She was appointed Chairman of the Home Economics Department of Seaford Junior/Senior High School, and in that capacity also taught Social Psychology, Bachelor Living, and in addition became certified to teach Health. Frances belonged to the educational organizations: N.E.A., N.Y.S.T.A., and N.Y.S.T.R.S. She served in the capacity of Department Chair until her retirement in 1981, when she moved to Manhattan and embarked on her second career as actress, her childhood dream. Francesca was a member of S.A.G.-A.F.T.R.A., and Actors' Equity and achieved roles on Everybody Loves Raymond, Law and Order, Saturday Night Live, The Sopranos, various soap operas, print work, voice overs and movies. Francesca's passion was ballroom dancing, and she exercised her talent with lessons at Fred Astaire, performances and competitions.

Francesca resided at The Colonnade on West 57th Street in Manhattan for 30 years, until she moved in 2011 to Glen Arden in Goshen, NY to be near her daughter, Joan. Francesca became Glen Arden's fashion statement, with her signature scarves for every outfit. She was loved by all, the belle of Glen Arden! When asked for her words of wisdom, Francesca said, "In the final analysis, it's really love that binds people, that makes you love them, in spite of their mistakes and their faults." Visitation will be held from 2-5 on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 515 Route 32, Highland Mills, NY.
