Oryst "Jack" Sharky November 23, 1931 – March 11, 2020 Monroe, NY DUE TO THE CORONAVIRUS RESTRICTIONS, FOR THE SAFETY OF THE FAMILY AND OTHERS, THERE WILL BE NO VISITATION AND THE MASS HAS BEEN MOVED TO WEDNESDAY, MARCH 18, 2020 AT 11:00 A.M. AT ST. ANASTASIA CHURCH, HARRIMAN, NY. Oryst "Jack" Sharky passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at the NYS Veterans Home in Montrose, NY. He was 88 years old. Son of the late John and Ksenia Kostyszyn Sharky, he was born on November 23, 1931 in New York, NY. Oryst proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 in Korea. After his honorable discharge he went on to be an engineer for General Dynamics in Groton, CT. Oryst was a jack of all trades. He built a house for his family in CT. Because of his infectious smile, he earned the nickname "Smiling Jack". Oryst was a member of St. Anastasia Church in Harriman, NY. Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years: Eleanor Balanda Sharky; his children: Steven E. Sharky and his wife Bonnie, of Leominster, MA, and his daughter, Veronica A. Ellis, of Monroe, NY.; his grandchildren: Pamela, Stephanie, James, Elizabeth and Jennifer; and his great-grandchildren: Austin, Tyler, Peyton, Jade, Dylan, James and Lillian. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Avenue, Monroe, NY 10950. A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, March 19th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anastasia Church in Harriman, NY. Cremation took place at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope, NY.
