Edward DeForest, Jr. August 14, 1933-October 12, 2020 Monroe, NY Edward DeForest, Jr., passed away on Monday, October 12, 2020 at his residence in Monroe, NY. He was 87 years old. Son of the late Edward and Emily DeForest, he was born on August 14, 1933 in Staten Island, NY. Ed began his career at Brewer Dry Dock in Staten Island before becoming a Dock Builder for the Carpenters Union in New York City. From 1952 to 1954, Ed was enlisted in the US Army, serving as a Sergeant in the Korean War. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, and the National Defense Service Medal. Ed was a hobby enthusiast. His creativity began with photography in his own dark room. He then moved to jewelry making, upholstery, and later model trains. He had created a huge, scenic, model train layout in the basement of his Staten Island home, with all elements of the display handcrafted. Later he took on woodworking, where he built many toys and decorations which he gifted to friends and family and sold at craft fairs. A lifelong sports fan, Ed was an avid supporter of the Mets, the Giants, and all teams in which his four children participated. He also liked to golf and bowl. Survivors include his children: Edward DeForest and his wife, Denise, of Brown Mills, NJ; Tom DeForest and his wife, Lori, of Myrtle Beach, SC; Terence DeForest and his wife, Lisa, of Biddeford, ME; and Susan Mullan and her husband, Brendan, of Monroe, NY; his brother Donald DeForest, of Staten Island, NY; and his grandchildren: Thomas, Brittany, TJ, Nick, Erin, Matthew and John. Ed was predeceased by his loving wife Florence, and by his granddaughter Julie. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am – 11:00 am on Monday, October 19, 2020 with a Chapel Service beginning at 11:00 am at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush Funeral Home, 117 Maple Ave., Monroe, NY 10950. Interment will follow at Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Goshen, NY. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, there will be limited occupancy and we ask you to please adhere to the state regulations regarding face masks and distancing.
