Obituary of Mary "Shay" R. Corneby

Mary (Shay) Reynolds Corneby April 9, 1939 – January 28, 2021 Chester, New York Mary (known to most as Shay) Corneby stepped into heaven on Thursday, January 28, 2021, after several days of being surrounded by her family and friends. She was born on April 9, 1939 to Dr. Orlando Shay Reynolds and Gertrude Bowman Reynolds and spent her childhood in Franklin, West Virginia. She graduated Franklin High School and then attended West Virginia Wesleyan College where she met Bert Corneby. They married in 1959 and raised three children in Monroe, where she resided for more than 60 years. Shay loved visiting with people in the community. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church where she: attended regularly, sang in the choir, joined the Presbyterian Women's Club, and was a driving force of the Cemetery Committee. She was also a member of the Monroe Garden Club. About 2010, Shay was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. As the disease progressed, she spent most of her recent years living in Chester at the home of her son Scott and his wife Robin Corneby. She looked forward to the visits with her friends, family, and the daily support of her loving caregiver Pauline. Shay is proceeded in death by her husband of 36 years Bert and her sister Gertrude (Dee Dee) Ratlief. She is survived by her three children: Vaughn (Virginia), Scott (Robin) and Beth (John), six grand-children: Brittany, Sean, Brendan, Jamie, Erich and Brody and one great grand-child Connor. She will be dearly missed. Given the current COVID situation the family plans for private ceremony.
