Obituary of Joseph Verbert

Joseph Verbert, Jr. August 18, 1929 – April 6, 2021 Chester, New York Joseph Verbert, Jr. passed away on April 6, 2021 at his residence in Chester, New York. He was 91 years old. Son of the late Joseph & Hilda Becker Verbert, he was born in Goshen, New York. Joseph was retired from Orange & Rockland Utilities Gas Department. In his younger days, he was a dairy farmer & cattle dealer with his Dad, which was always in his heart. Joseph was a 73-year member of Walton Engine & Hose Co. He was past Chief of the Chester Fire Department, past Fire Commissioner for Chester Fire District, and past Orange County Fire District 9 Coordinator. He was a life member of Middletown Elks Lodge #1097 in Middletown and a member of St. Columba Church in Chester. He was also a member of the Chester Seniors, and until 88 years old, was a Meals on Wheels volunteer. Joseph was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Mary Board Verbert, who died in 1998, and his wife of 12 years, Carmen Verbert, who died in 2020. He was also predeceased by his brother, Charles Verbert and sister, Louise Flynn. Survivors include his son, Joe Verbert, III & his wife Cathy; daughter, Mary Ann Brischoux & her husband Claude; grandchildren: Melissa Verbert, Joe W. Verbert & his wife Stephanie, and Kevin Brischoux & his wife Lyndsay; four great-grandchildren: Matthew & Emma Brischoux, Joseph Thomas & Addison Verbert; two stepchildren and three step granddaughters; and nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5-8 P.M. on Friday, April 9, 2021 at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Avenue, Monroe. Firematic services conducted by Walton Engine & Hose Co. will take place at 7:00 P.M in the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 10, 2021 in the funeral home. Interment will follow in St. Columba Cemetery in Chester. Memorial contributions may be made to Walton Engine & Hose Co., P.O. Box 455, Chester, New York 10918.
